Necessity is the plea
Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves.

I’m not a pheasant plucker….
‘m not a pheasant plucker, I’m a pheasant plucker’s son
I’m only plucking pheasants ’till the pheasant plucker comes.
Me husband is a keeper, he’s a very busy man
I try to understand him and I help him all I can,
But sometimes in an evening I feel a trifle dim
All alone, I’m plucking pheasants, when I’d rather pluck with him.
I’m not a pheasant plucker, I’m a pheasant plucker’s mate
I’m only plucking pheasants ‘cos the pheasant plucker’s late !
I’m not good at plucking pheasants, at pheasant plucking I get stuck
Though some pheasants find it pleasant I’d rather pluck a duck.
Oh plucking geese is gorgeous, I can pluck a goose with ease
But pheasant plucking’s torture because they haven’t any grease.
I’m not a pheasant plucker, he has gone out on the tiles
He only plucked one pheasant and I’m sitting here with piles !
You have to pluck them fresh, if it’s fresh they’re not unpleasant,
I knew a man in Dunstable who could pluck a frozen pheasant.
They say the village constable had pheasant plucking sessions
With the vicar on a Sunday ‘tween the first and second lessons.
I’m not a pheasant plucker, I’m a pheasant plucker’s mum
I’m only plucking pheasants ’till the pheasant plucker’s come.
My good friend Godfrey is most adept, he’s really got the knack
He likes to have a pheasant plucked before he hits the sack.
I like to give a helping hand, I gather up the feathers,
It’s really all our pheasant plucking keeps us pair together.
I’m not a pheasant plucker, I’m a pheasant plucker’s friend
I’m only plucking pheasants as a means unto an end !
My husband’s in the forest always banging with his gun
If he could hear me half the time I’m sure that he would run,
For there’s fluff in all my crannies, there’s feathers up my nose
And I’m itching in the kitchen from my head down to my toes.
I’m not a pheasant plucker, I’m a pheasant plucker’s wife
And when we pluck together it’s a pheasant plucking life !

John Wyndham
After struggling for a while to find a new or different author to read I decided in November to re-visit some of the works of John Wyndham.
Pen name for John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris (10 July 1903 – 11 March 1969).
I really enjoyed the golden eyes of “the middwich cuckoos” Although I am not someone who normally enjoys sci fi, i took a great deal of enjoyment out of this whole process.
When i first read the day of the triffids, following the TV series – which terrified me.. It put me right off his works.
Having re-read it, I enjoyed it, but felt that being made to read it at school was not appropriate.
I have the chrysalids still to read, and then I will be resorting back to my normal genre for a while. But I will be reading more of his works, and I will no longer glance past them in charity shops!
Further research however has shown him to have been prolific in his writing.

Winter Solstice
he Shortest Day
By Susan Cooper
And so the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.
And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, revelling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us – listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight,
This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And now so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.
Welcome Yule!

Frosty the Snowman
“Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day.”

Holly and Oak Kings
“The Holly King, represents the Death aspect of the God at this time of year; and the Oak King, represents the opposite aspect of Rebirth (these roles are reversed at Midsummer). This can be likened to the Divine Child’s birth. The myth of the Holly King/Oak King probably originated from the Druids to whom these two trees were highly sacred. The Oak King (God of the Waxing Year) kills the Holly King (God of the Waning Year) at Yule (the Winter Solstice). The Oak King then reigns supreme until Litha (the Summer Solstice) when the two battle again, this time with the Holly King victorious. Examples of the Holly King’s image can be seen in our modern Santa Claus.”
- Yule and Its Lore
“Good King Wenceslas last looked out,
On the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight
Gathering winter fuel.”

OUCH!
There is nothing more disheartening that believing your disability has gone away, and doing all the fun things I have been doing the last few weeks and then Wack, wollop BANG.. I couldnt get out of bed this morning. It took me to 11 am, to move my legs, then mid day to hold my own weight…
I am sore, battered and frustrated once more.. The trusty chariot, is going to be making some more tours i feel the next few weeks, and i am sad, because i had hopped i was managing my disability better..
OUCH!
Asha on the other hand, has had a reminder of why mummy cant do stuff, as today and yesterday she has been fetching carrying, and on the whole HAVING to behave herself.. and as always, she has been GREAT at being my little Angel…
She has even cleared up her toys before bed.. and helped sort her room out, with a friend, so she now has a double bed we can both sleep in, in her room! Her idea!

Really really pleased…
That Steve has a wonderful web site project he can really get his teeth into for the next few weeks. Its demanding, but fun and challenging for him, and hopefully will be another show piece, to show what he can do.

Last 20 days….
Just been reflecting on what we have done in last 20 days..
Asha has had 4 violin lessons, three of them in conway, one at home edd camp.
We have been to chester zoo. Foel Park, 3 times, and the beach twice.
She has been to the greenwood center, and to the circus.
We have spent at least one afternoon at Penrhyn Castle.
We have visited friends in portmadog, clunt y bont, and Caernarfon.
We have been shopping, out for meals, and Asha has played in local parks.
We have been to an open day at Molecyi, and to a car boot sale in Bangor.

Its been a while….
I know, I know, its been a while since my last post. So much has happened, I really don’t know where to start.
I went on writers block, which hasn’t helped I guess.
Home Edd camp in Wales, went well, though I didnt find enough time to talk to people. Asha didnt like the mud at the festival after, and generally I have been very busy with her education and general winging.
She has been refusing to settle at night for months now and even now is climbing all over me as i type this. :d
She can almost swim, read and write now. She is getting a violin for her 5th birthday and is a happy (if not spoilt) child… But that is o.k. by me.
She has recently been using the words “frustrated, annoyed, angry, happy and curious” a lot in her vocabulary, especially when she cant get her own way :d
Guess that is it for now.

Red Eared Terrapin
Scientific name:Trachemys scripta elegans
Continent: North America, South America
Diet: Fish- piscivore, insects- insectivore, water plants
Food & feeding: Omnivore
Habitats: Freshwater
Conservation status: Near Threatened.
Description: This is a sleek turtle, with webbed feet and a red stripe down each side of the head. The carapace (upper shell) is patterned with yellow and green markings. They reach a maximum size of around 25 cm.
Lifestyle: The red-eared terrapin inhabits still or slow flowing water with thick underwater vegetation. Primarily active during the day, it likes to haul out onto land, roots or floating logs to soak up the sun’s heat.
Family & friends: It is very gregarious and lives and sunbathes in large groups.
Keeping in touch: The male has very long front claws and the courtship behaviour involves him swimming in front of the female and tickling her chin. The female usually lays eggs once a year, sometimes twice.
Growing up: The clutch averages about 15 eggs but can be anything from 2-22 eggs. She excavates a pit where she lays the eggs at intervals of three to ten minutes. She then covers the pit and leaves them to develop. Hatching occurs after about three months, or less if conditions are warmer.
Red-eared terrapins like to bask in the sun and moorhen or coot nests by the water are ideal basking platforms. Unfortunately though, turtles clambering onto nests can partially submerge these fragile nests, killing the eggs and chicks.

Wales Home Education Enviromental Camp.
I am really looking forwards to this. Between the bottle rockets, bat houses, bird boxes, musical instruments, theater tents, pottery workshops, May day events, and everything else, it will be FANTASTIC.

In memorandum, common sense
Obituary
My parents told me about Mr Common Sense early in my life and told me I would do well to call on him when making decisions. It seems he was always around in my early years but less and less as time passed by until today, sadly, I read his obituary.
Please join me in a moment of silence in remembrance. For Common Sense had served us all so well for so many generations.
