Leonard Peltier
n the Beginning
Leonard Peltier (of the Anishinabe, Dakota, and Lakota Nations) traces the roots of his political activism to the rank racism and brutal poverty he experienced every day as an Indian child growing up on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa and Fort Totten Sioux reservations in North Dakota.
Termination and Its Aftermath
During the last years of the Eisenhower administration a resolution was passed by Congress to “terminate” all Indian reservations and “relocate” Indians off their lands and into the cities. Indians were given two choices: either relocate or starve. Later, court decisions would declare this policy illegal. In the late 1950s, however, to implement their inhuman policy, the United States government cut off the reservations’ already meager supply of food and commodities—the pitiful little “payment” they had promised the Indians in their treaties to recompense Indians for all the vast and holy continent they’d stolen. Now, Indian people were offered money to get off their land and move to cities like Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Chicago—where they were faced with joblessness, poverty, and hopeless despair on the mean streets of America’s inner-city slums.
Leonard was about 14 years old at the time. With his father, he attended meetings on the reservation to discuss the government’s decision to terminate Turtle Mountain. He recalls one Ojibwa lady, a cousin, who stood up angrily and asked in a loud, emotional, tear-filled voice, “Where are our warriors? Why don’t they stand up and fight for their starving people?”

Breastfeeding? You can really help the babies in Haiti
UPDATED STATEMENT: Breastfeeding is the First Line of Defense in a Disaster
Washington, DC (January 27, 2010)–The Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC), International Lactation Consultant Association/United States Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA/USLCA), and La Leche League International (LLLI) strongly affirm the importance of breastfeeding in emergency situations, and call on relief workers and health care providers serving victims of disasters to protect, promote, and support mothers to breastfeed their babies. During an emergency, breastfeeding mothers provide their infants with safe food and water and disease protection that maximize their chances of survival.

Tots 100
Tots 100 has now got a new sponsor.. I have always loved the idea of someone spending there own time and energy and resources manually going through different sites, and deciding that they will name the top 100 parent blogs. This has appealed to me.
Now they have a family holiday firm who are taking over sponsorship. Allready this is causing some differeing views, between people who are on the list.
I remember the first time heard of tots 100, I was amazed that my site was on it.. It hasnt been for a while now though
I like the idea a lot, however I am worried, that the sponsorship might go wrong… I guess we will see…
I wish them luck with it all… !!!

Famous Home Educated people.. part 1.. Queen Elizabeth.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth was born in London on April, 21 1926, first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, subsequently King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Five weeks later she was christened in the chapel of Buckingham Palace and was given the names Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. The Queen ascended the throne on February 6, 1952 upon the death of her father, King George VI. Her Coronation followed on June 2, 1953.
Princess Elizabeth had her early education at home. After her father succeeded to the throne in 1936 and she became heiress presumptive, her studies were extended to include lessons on constitutional history and law. After the Second World War Princess Elizabeth’s public engagements grew in number and frequency. Her first official visit overseas took place in 1947, when she accompanied her parents and sister on a tour
of South Africa.
Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten (4th cousin) in Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. Prince Charles, now the Prince of Wales and heir apparent to the throne, was born in 1948, the Princess Anne, now the Princess Royal, was born in 1950, the Prince Andrew, now the Duke of York, was born in 1960, and the Prince Edward, in 1964. The Queen and the Duke celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in London in 1972.
In 1977, the Queen’s Silver Jubilee was celebrated in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth. Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen travelled some 56,000 miles to share the anniversary with her people. 2002 marked the 50th anniversary of The Queen’s Accession to the Throne. This milestone had previously been achieved by only five other British monarchs: Henry III, Edward III, James I, George III and Queen Victoria.

Lea“Schools are an utter waste of young life.
“Schools are an utter waste of young life.
By the way, if either Simon Schama or David Starkey are reading this, they should cover their eyes now. “I am not a historian. I am a children’s author,” Deary says. “I’ve got no qualifications in history. And that’s a massive advantage in reaching my audience. Because historians like Simon Schama and David Starkey just stand on television and lecture you. And when they write books, they’ve got the same lecturing voice. But mine is more: ‘You’ll never guess what I’ve found out! It’s shocking!’”
More than this, though, Deary is profoundly opposed to schools. That is, to the institution of school itself – to the extent that he will never accept an invitation to give a talk in one.
“I get 200 requests a year and the answer is no,” he says. “I detest schools with a passion. I’d rather cut off my left arm and eat it with Marmite than go into a school. And I don’t even like Marmite.
“Schools are an utter waste of young life. Learning things that will never be any use to you. The only reason they are there is to keep kids off the street. They were a Victorian invention. The Industrial Revolution took kids from their families and made the parents work in factories long hours. Then they said, ‘we can’t have these little kids working here.’ So what do we do? Lock them all up in the same room all day and we’ll call it school. I spent hours learning trigonometry, physics, none of which prepared me for life. Relationships, talking to people, managing money, planning your career, how to help someone who has cut their leg open. I have had to learn these things by default.

Is the Government right to be concerned about home schooling
VCF – The Victoria Climbié Foundation UK is genuinely concerned about the link being made between Victoria Climbié and home education, and Victoria as a hidden child. Victoria was neither home-educated nor hidden.
The reality is that there is no such thing as a ‘hidden’ child, only children who are allowed to fall through the gaps. The key issue here is how statutory services interact with children that are known within the child protection system.
And I do feel that untill the goverment is able to look after the children it has been given responisiblity for, then it needs to leave the rest of us alone!!!

Form 696 – London Music Scene.. are you aware?
“How Form 696 could pull the plug on the capital’s music scene”;
Warning sounded over new piece of bureaucracy that forces licensees to reveal a mass of information about performers
Friday, 21 November 2008
Teenage kicks will be harder to get if publicans and managers of other small venues are forced to comply with a new piece of bureaucracy called Form 696, a former punk rock star has warned.
The form demands that licensees give police a mass of detail, including the names, aliases, private addresses and phone numbers of all musicians and other performers appearing at their venue, and the ethnic background of the likely audience. Failure to comply could mean the loss of a licence or even a fine and imprisonment.
It applies in 21 London boroughs, but professionals in the music business fear that if it becomes accepted, it will be copied in other cities. Martin Rawlings, director of the Pub and Beer Association, said: “I know of licensees faced with this saying they are just not going to put live music on. Form 696 is being used only in London so far, but there are similar things going on around the country, where the police are asking publicans to sign various protocols. It has gone too far, frankly.”
Mr Sharkey has also complained to the Equality and Human Rights Commission that the police appear to be focusing on the music enjoyed by black and Asian teenagers. One of the questions on the form requires the licensee to specify the type of music that will be performed, giving as possible examples “Bashment, R’n'B, Garage”. Another question asks, “Is there a particular ethnic group attending?”

Robotic Children. taken from the ecologist
Our conveyor-belt education system is geared towards the production of clones and parrots, not imaginative, creative and curious human beings. Is it any wonder our children are stressed and unhappy? Nick Nettles reports
http://www.theecologist.org/pages/archive_detail.asp?content_id=1946 Try not to gulp when you read the next sentence.
According to lobby group Leave Them Kids Alone, upwards of 3,500 UK schools are fingerprinting their students, with biometric equipment bought from two Department for Children, Schools and Families-approved suppliers.

Police Hack your computer, whilst the ballifs enter your home :d
The UK government has agreed to work with the European Parliament on plans to extend police powers to conduct remote searches of computers without a warrant.
The European Union Council of Ministers approved a plan in November 2008 to grant law-enforcement authorities in member states the power to perform remote searches of suspects’ computers, as well as to perform ‘cyber patrols’ of the internet and increase data sharing between European police forces. The plan, to be implemented within the next five years, raises the possibility of cross-border co-operation on cyber investigations. Read the rest of this entry »

“My Mother Said”
“My mother says”
I shouldn’t eat that yellow snow….
I should learn the know what is good, and what isnt so.
My Nanny tells me what to do.
I ask her why.. she tells me so… I can have more fodder for the army, my son.. Now look here.. Your mother told you not to eat that yellow snow..
My Daddy shows me videos on u tube.. from when he was a little boy.. They talk about making choices and days before CCTV.
I look at him and ask.. if he went on the beach… How its dangerous.. what about the sand, inbetween your toes…
My Daddy says…
In the days before your nanny, we ate our food of a glass plate, and drank out of china cups. We played football in the road and we could buy what we needed….But now the goverment is scared, we might make an floating parafin bomb, so we all sit in the dark, and drink out of empty cups.. so they can build an army, to protect what they dont own. But remeber son.. dont you eat that yellow snow!

The charity wants websites to direct children to help and advice
Three out of four children have seen images on the internet that disturbed them, an NSPCC poll suggests.
The charity is renewing its call for computer manufacturers and retailers to install security to stop children finding violent or sexual content.
