Four Seasons Game.. I like the sound of this one.
Choose one child (or an adult) as a leader, to give directions and keep score. Divide the rest of the class or group into teams for each of the four seasons and sit them in a ring, in seasonal order (ie spring, summer, autumn, winter).
The leader starts by saying, “I am Spring. I am leaving.” Read the rest of this entry »

Robotic Children. taken from the ecologist
Our conveyor-belt education system is geared towards the production of clones and parrots, not imaginative, creative and curious human beings. Is it any wonder our children are stressed and unhappy? Nick Nettles reports

According to lobby group Leave Them Kids Alone, upwards of 3,500 UK schools are fingerprinting their students, with biometric equipment bought from two Department for Children, Schools and Families-approved suppliers.
Could there be a more frightening motif for our brave new world of order and control? Read the rest of this entry »

Police Hack your computer, whilst the ballifs enter your home :d
The UK government has agreed to work with the European Parliament on plans to extend police powers to conduct remote searches of computers without a warrant.
The European Union Council of Ministers approved a plan in November 2008 to grant law-enforcement authorities in member states the power to perform remote searches of suspects’ computers, as well as to perform ‘cyber patrols’ of the internet and increase data sharing between European police forces. Moths, use colour to see flowers at night.
A NOCTURNAL moth has become the first animal known to see colours in the dead of night. They use this visual talent to find yellow, nectar-packed flowers in the dark, but the finding reported in New Scientist suggests that other species also use colour vision at night.
Nocturnal moths were thought to find flowers by looking for bright petals against a darker, leafy background. Read the rest of this entry »

Tights Fall Down…..

When I was in senior school I remeber weeks of our geography lessons being spent discussing these things, and it was sooo boring! Last week the kids at CLAS had great fun playing with them, and asking questions and taking photographs of them.
I hope to take Asha tomorrow to the river to look at ice a bit more, but in the mean time, some information for you on ICE, Stalactites and Stalagmites.
