Port Sunlight
Last weekend we stayed at my parents for a few days, and Mum and I took Asha to the Lady Lever Art Gallery.
I havent been for a while, and its one of my favourite places. It has half decent childrens resources, and often some very interesting exhibitions.
Anyway, I wanted to go and see some of the Impressionist works I remebered from there, but I think it must have been from a exhibition at some stage so instead I had a another look at there fantastic display of Pre-Raphalite works and that age old favouraite of mine “The Scape Goat” – William Holman Hunt
Asha did a lovely colouring in of the picture then we went around some of the other paintings and she decided her favourite was one of the sheep in a field. I cant find the painiting right now, but I think its called “sheep in the snow”

After spending best part of an hour last night, tired looking for the complaints dept for our local ambulance service – I got run of the A499 last night by one. I have just found there web site..

If I had found this last night there would have been murder.. instead there has been a curt email.. A new mirror cost me £16 today, plus a half hour drive to go and get one.. It meant we ran late for Asha’s party and everything..

Woodcraft folk
Asha goes every Wednesday evening, and seems to really enjoy it. There is another little boy there who is a day older than Asha and not a lot bigger who she really plays lovely with.
This week we made rats from tissue paper and they came out like flags, an interesting idea. We also tried eating with chopsticks. We didnt have enough time for Tai Chi, or the Chinese New Year Story… but we will carry that over to next week.
Asha was exhausted by the end but then so was I!
Another great success I feel.

CLAS
We really enjoyed it this week. Everything seems so right about this group at the moment for us. Asha enjoys playing with M. He seems a lovely little boy.
It was really good to get to talk to A and J. The people at CLAS are so good!
Asha did pond fishing, and Steve took her on the swings and climbing frame which she loved. She also painted, glued cut out dolls for dressing and generally had a wonderfull afternoon.

Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery
Gwynedd Council have announced plans to close the Museum in Bangor,
The aim of Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery is to contribute towards the understanding of the history and culture of Gwynedd and its people by collecting, caring for and by providing access to its collections so that everyone can share its rich heritage.”
This is Gwynedd’s only general museum. Learning about the ways of life led by previous generations helps us to place our own experiences in the context of an unfolding story. This understanding enriches our lives. Which part of the collection will be of interest to you ? Every visitor will leave with a particular memory of a favourite object. What will yours be?
ref : http://www.gwynedd.gov.uk/ Feb 2008
To enable them to save £60,000. This will mean the closure of North Wales
oldest museum, the loss of several jobs and untold damage to the local
heritage, tourist industry and economy as well as cultural life in the
county.
There is now a web site set up, to set a pettition about this, if you feel you want to sign it please do so!

Wales
shwmae (hello) Wales is a country in the british isles. Its has over 750 miles of coastline – thats a fair bit
and 641 castles.. Wow!
Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe, and although most Welsh speakers can speak english, like us all, a bit of effort on the home language never goes amis! The Welsh alphabet has no q or V, but does include a ll, ff, and dd!
Its truly amazing how many places start with Llan (meaning church)!

Penrhyn Castle – near Bangor.
We went there today, with a few people from Woodfolk, to see the snowdrops and Daffodils.
Although only the gardens and tea rooms were open, it was a well spent afternoon, dispite the high winds, and rain at the end of the day, and I really recomend going to them if you have the chance.
The three small ponds had snails and interesting plants in, and Asha got to see Matting toads, and frogspawn. She also saw water snails, lillies and other wildlife.
It was great getting to go around with P, as he works there, he was able to direct us and tell us all about so many of the trees, the beech, redwood, and laurel, are three trees I have learnt more about today.
We also discussed the tree which queen elizabeth planted.. but I cant remeber what it is.
Asha got to look closely at snow drops, daffodils, crocus, Primrose, and other plants. We also looked at a tree heather, which I am intrigued about.
Loads of walking, and If Asha was asleep I would be asleep now.. but a great afternoon.

The Bins – Recycling.
Gwynedd council is about to take the once a fortnight bin step, that so many other councils have trod before them.
I personally dont mind the once a fortnight pick up, if the bin men actually move the bins. Today, however they left our recycle box where it was, so we dont have an empty one. I would have moved it.. but know the contents would now be all over Clynnog!, so left it where it was.
I also cant see why if they want to increase re-cycling they cant pick up the re-cycling rubbish every week, and the normal domestic waste every fortnight.. Thus we fill our recycling boxes up with as much rubbish as we can.. and get rid of it weekly.. so those dog and cat tins will get washed out then… as will milk bottles, and other more smelly items.. as we can get rid of them..
Gwynedd at the moment isnt doing cardboard curb side.. O.k. not a hugh problem. We keep cardboard in the make and do box for a fortnight anyway.. then empty it into the bin.. But Asha’s prescription packaging could probably fill a wheelie bin over a month on its own. I am sure i am not alone on this problem! Can I ask for another bin on medical grounds

GCSE’s and Home Education
Although this is years away for us, a few people have asked me allready what happens about these things and home education.
although the reality is that there is no legal requirement for such things.. and I personally think there are better courses to take for employment than them.. the HEAS
Home Education Advisery Service web site has some sound information on it about it.
We are delighted that Edexcel have made their IGCSEs (with coursework-free option) available to home-educated children. Mathematics is available in 2004. More subjects are to follow from Summer 2005.
Please don’t telephone Edexcel directly: private candidates can be ‘labour intensive’ for examining boards and full information is available on Edexcel International’s website at www.edexcel-international.org. (Free internet access should be available in your public library).
So there you go.

Mexican
We went for a mexican meal at Glasfryn tonight, it was very very good.
The chef there made Asha a lovely starter and main meal, which she woofed down!..
We also brought our normal shopping – Milk, eggs, etc from there. The shop manager appoligised for not having any of Asha’s milk in, but we are o.k. for it right now. The supplier sent the wrong milk!
I forget how wonderful it can be to just have a little bit of family time, doing something that little bit different.

With the recent bad weather of the last 24 hour and the amount of rescue attemps the RNLI have had to do I have just spent a while looking at there site.
After a while I found an educational resource, which I thought any home edder in Wales, or near the sea may make use of RNLI Shorething
