Gwynedd council is about to take the once a fortnight bin step, that so many other councils have trod before them.
I personally dont mind the once a fortnight pick up, if the bin men actually move the bins. Today, however they left our recycle box where it was, so we dont have an empty one. I would have moved it.. but know the contents would now be all over Clynnog!, so left it where it was.
I also cant see why if they want to increase re-cycling they cant pick up the re-cycling rubbish every week, and the normal domestic waste every fortnight.. Thus we fill our recycling boxes up with as much rubbish as we can.. and get rid of it weekly.. so those dog and cat tins will get washed out then… as will milk bottles, and other more smelly items.. as we can get rid of them..
Gwynedd at the moment isnt doing cardboard curb side.. O.k. not a hugh problem. We keep cardboard in the make and do box for a fortnight anyway.. then empty it into the bin.. But Asha’s prescription packaging could probably fill a wheelie bin over a month on its own. I am sure i am not alone on this problem! Can I ask for another bin on medical grounds

if it’s anything like Cheshire then yes, you can ask for a larger bin if you can prove that you genuinely cannot “slim your bin” effectively.
Our bin men will only take what is left on the very edge of our property so that they can just walk down the pavement and reach the boxes but then I suppose they have a certain number of bins and boxs to empty in a certain time and if they had to walk up and down everyone’s drives (closing gates etc behind them) it would take ages.
Sounds interesting..
Next Bin round if I have got all the recycling junk in the recycling bin.. and my normal rubbish bin is still overflowing.. with card, then I shall ask.. After all.. They can come and look at all the labels on the card!
I phoned up for another recycling box today, they are sending me one out and asking the bin men to use there sense about the box. It is right on the edge of the property, as we dont have a curb infront of our house.. so it cant get much nearer the road.. about 2 foot of the road, anyway!
I wouldnt mind, but this week they could even get it out, as I had parked the van on the other side of the “drive” to make it easier, with it being so windy on Friday!
you only have 1 recycling bin? Wow, lucky girl! We have a red one for plastic bottles, a green one for tins, glass and (bagged) textiles, a green bag for paper and a brown wheelie bin for compostable waste, or at least what they say is compostable, they won’t take food carton cardboard even though it is compostable, nor will they take veg scraps or weeds that have any mud left on the roots. Sigh. It’s a lot to haul out on a Wednesday night!
No its o.k. Katy, been there worn the t shirt …
Here we have one recycling box, which you have to seperatly put in thin card, and tins..(all in plastic tied bags) its easy here.. but they wont take clothes / card.. my main bug bear
They also do a green re-cycling bin.. for “clean garden waste” I still dont get what that is exactly!
